Science fiction action drama, Elysium, took the number one spot at the box office this week. The film, starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster took home $30.4m. Critics have declared the film to be just shy of Communist propaganda. However, Damon and writer/director, Niell Blomkamp, said that there was no political undertones intended for the film. Blompkamp also directed 2009’s District 9.
Also topping the box office this week: We’re the Millers came in second place with $26.6m. Disney animation’s Planes took third place, earning $22.5m. With $14.6m, Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters came in fourth place. And in fifth place was 2 Guns, bringing in $11.1m.
Really, I’ve got no interest in any of the movies that came out this week. I’ll catch a glimpse of We’re the Millers when there’s nothing else on TV, possibly. That’d be about it.
